There’s only one real purpose for campaign signs in an election, to feed a candidate’s ego.

Signs don’t vote but they do tell you something about the candidates of you are paying attention. Most regular sized campaign signs, you know the small ones about 24 inches by 16 inches promote the last name, smaller first name, and the party. That’s about all that you can fit on them.

Bigger signs say more, reflecting a candidate’s ego. Freud would say a politician who has done nothing good would create large signs to “compensate.”

A good, popular candidate doesn’t need to “compensate” for their “little,” lack of self esteem.

Last week, Orland Park Mayor Keith Pekau started putting up his extremely large and unsightly campaign signs.
